English

1. Describe at least one way that a character or individual changed in the text.
- The Other Mother
- At the beginning - she was kind, lovely, she is two faced, perfect model of a mum, a bit strange, buttons for eyes (symbols)
- At the end - crazy, strange, violent, malicious, sinister, looks like a witch, no longer looks like a human.

- Physical change that shows the real evil mother - was always evil, but we didn't see it.
- Legs - extend/grows more/metal, Head - pointy, gets skinner, loses all fat then skin,

- Costume - nice and form fitting to rags, warm colours, more dark colours - black/red/white, more beetle like, less human like.

- Colour/Lighting - at the start artificial, warm, orange like - makes us feel welcome/safe, by the end artificial, cold, dark with neon green and purple light - feel dangerous/horror

1. Physical
2. Colour/Lighting
3.Costume

2. Explain how this change was important to the text as a whole.
- Shows the theme - 'looks can be deceiving'
- Made the story scarier to see her change over time, more intense, draws the viewer in.

Thesis Statement - My argument

In Henry Selicks film 'Coraline', one character whose change was important to the story was the other mother. We first encounter her as a kind perfect mother, but by the end we see her true nature as an evil soul stealing demon. This shows us the theme of looks can be deceiving. This essay will discus how physical, Lighting and costume are used to show the change of the other mother.

The Other Mother, a character in Henry Selicks film 'Coraline', changes from a nice caring mother to a soul stealing demon spider.

'Looks can be deceiving' is an important theme in Henry Selicks film 'Coraline'. It is best shown through the changes of the character, 'The Other Mother'.
